Crestwood Skating Club - Edmonton, Alberta

Programs

Learn-to-Skate (Oct - Dec) & (Jan - Mar)

Learn-to-Skate is a 1/2 hour program specifically designed for 3 and 4 year olds. The program allows them to gain confidence on the ice and develop basic skating skills. The children learn balance, forward gliding, backward skating, and stopping. Weekly themes are used in a fun and innovative way in order to capture the attention of younger children. The Learn-to-Skate program is a stepping-stone to the Basic Skating Program. Children should be willing to be on the ice independently of their parents.

Advanced Learn-to-Skate

This program is designed for 4 years olds that have been involved in Crestwood Skating Club's Learn-to-Skate program. Particpants should be able to stand by themselves on the ice without the aid of other skaters or learn-to-skate equipment at the time of registration. Students must be able to move forwards and backwards with little difficulty.
The Advanced Learn-to-Skate program is an excellent stepping stone for those students looking to make the jump to our basic skating program next fall.

Basic Skating Skills

The emphasis of this program is to teach children that they can skate and to provide encouragement and fun while learning new skating skills.
The Basic Skating Skills program provides an opportunity for a student to earn badges and progress at their own pace. Each student will receive a progress report in December and a year end report in March.

Advanced Basic Skating

This program offers skaters the opportunity to advance their figure skating skills in a small group setting. Skaters will continue to hone their basic skating skills progressing towards spinning, jumping, and stroking techniques. Each student will receive a progress report in December and a year end report in March.

All students must have already passed level 3 of the Basic Skating Skills program.

Power Skating

This program is designed to refine the skating techniques of both hockey and ringette players. The focus of this class is to further learning in a high tempo intensive environment, while still creating a desire to improve skating skills within each student. Instructors are dedicated to developing power, endurance, speed, agility, and balance in each students skating stride.

Drive and a positive attitude are essential and each participant must be 6 years of age or older.

Powerskating & Puckhandling

This program is designed to hone & refine the skills of a proficient skater while handling the puck or ring (this is not a shooting class). Students should have a firm grasp of basic powerskating skills and be willing to relate these skills to simulated game situations.

Drills are designed to create an elite level of competition amongst students while still providing students with an environment conducive to learning. The goal of every instructor is to help students translate skills learned in class, to game situations so that the students can maintain full speed and agility while still handling the puck or ring.

All participants should currently be playing organized hockey or ringette at a competitive level. Students must be 8 years of age or older.
